Chargers could regret playing Marty Ball
The Chargers brought back Marty Schottenheimer so he could lose in the first round of the playoffs next year but they may have made a huge mistake. Marty Ball turned down an extension, which means he's a lame duck coach. San Diego was thinking they would promote either offensive coordinator Cam Cameron or defensive coordinator Wade Phillips when The Ball left. One problem. Neither one of those coaches could be on the Chargers staff next year. Miami has already gobbled up Cameron and Phillips is Jerry Jones' second choice after Lovie Smith. As I posted earlier, most people believe Smith will become the Cowboys coach if the Bears refuse to dust off their wallets and pay the man. However, if Smith stays and Phillips goes to Dallas instead, the Chargers would have lost both coordinators they were grooming to take over for the Ball. All this just to keep a coach for one more year that's now 5-13 in the playoffs. My guess is the Chargers take a big step backwards when "Roided Out" gets suspended again for taking "a weight lifting supplement" and Ball leaves after the season. Good work A.J. and stay classy San Diego.
